Best of the ‘Gest … remembering July, 2013

[On July 4, 2013 I was having coffee with my wife Sandy at our summer cottage. The Sox were in first place in the AL East with a three game lead over the Yankees. I distinctly remember turning to her and saying “You know … this could be for real.” We had already had a bombing at the Marathon, a David Ortiz expletive, the capture and trial of Whitey, and the arrest of a New England Patriot for murder. Once again we attended the Adams Shore neighborhood annual 4th of July celebration at the circle = families and neighbors mingling happily on a clear,sunny morning, kids on decorated bikes,politicians making the the first of numerous appearances, recitations of The Pledge…a little humor and hope much needed on this Independence Day 2022…
