[The company that now owns Vermont Castings will be celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Defiant woodstove in July. They’ve invited a few of us “golden oldies” to join the celebration. Will they putting us in a dunking booth? Throwing vegetables? Presenting lifetime achievement awards? Not sure, but the invitation sent me scurrying to the archives which unearthed this vintage video that showcases the early company culture. PS– A number of veterans of this era now count themselves among the happy citizens of The Jungle. SB SM]
The Defiant, the Vigilant, and the Resolute
About 47 years ago when we were in our first house I saw a few adds for Vermont Castings, called a dealer in Phoenixville, PA and had a compact model with glass doors set on the hearth of a fireplace. It was awesome, red hot coals in the morning you could add more wood to and a warmth that radiated throughout the room. Wonderful piece of engineering I gladly give you all the credit for!
And I, of course, accept all the credit, although in truth, none of it was due. I just sold the damn things!
Je me souviens
Thank you Stephen, you get full credit for making us the first Vermont Castings dealer in Pennsylvania. Dealer Week (I’m an OFISHAL GRAJUAT) photos bring back some great memories. Your beard is world class! Enjoy the 50th reunion.
Bill– I hope this finds you well and enjoying life! I’m glad to see the tradition carrying on through the generations of Ryans. You are, and have always been, my kind of people.
See the note above from Jerry Chase. You sold him that stove!
