[I vaguely claim Scottish heritage (plus a little Irish, Welsh, and maybe some English thrown in. So do my Cuzzins in the Hunter Clan. They posted it on Facebook, and I stole it. SB SM]
True story … Silverbelle Sandy and I went to Scotland a few years ago, so that we could visit with “my people.” We landed in Edinburgh and took a day trip to Dunbar where a weekend music festival was being staged. I wore on of those tweedy, Gatsby-type hats so that I could blend in with the locals.
At lunch in a pub we met three old fellers who had sailed in for the music and were currently enjoying it with a wee dram from the Highlands. (You can see them briefly pictured in the home video below.) “Wherr in da States arr ye from?” one of them asked me.
“Verrrmont,” I said, “but how did you know I was from the States?”
“Yerr hat,” he answered. Not professional filmmaking, but a fun memory for SB Sandy and me:
yes I suspect I am viewed with contempt by Irish members of NYJames Joyce Society when I wear my Galway knit cap – solely to keep my bald head warm
Stolen?…..maybe just borrowed….but one would think it still means some level of payment for its use…..don’t you think, cousin??
I will gladly pay you a royalty the next time I see you.
