[Vermont is just barely unmiring itself from mud. SB Sandy and I have taken the coward’s way out by escaping to Mexico. We’re on Calle Mesones in one of their fashionable, chi-chi shoppes where SB Sandy is trying on clothes, and I’m doing what SBs do while their women are trying on clothes … trying to look inconspicuous. There’s music tinkling in the background. It’s familiar. It’s not Latin music. I’ve heard this before. I concentrate and listen harder. Then while looking a stunning display of a fantasy tequila bar, it comes to me … it’s “Stick Season,” a song about Vermont’s sixth season after spring, summer, fall, winter and mud. It’s by Noah Kahan, who comes from Strafford, just two towns over from us. The kid has a bona fide, international hit, while I remain mired in mud. “Don’t be fooled by the warmth of the daytime. You’ll be in a ditch by nightfall.” SB SM]
Here’s the original for those of you with “nostalgie de la boue.” (BTW, if I were writing this song today, I would change “Ashley’s” to “Babe’s Bar.”) Recording Engineer: Spencer Lewis
