[I don’t go to the movies much these days, even though we have a very cool theater in town and it is run by our neighbors who we would like to support. The problems is that Hollywood is turning out such dreck these days. Programming decisions are made by bankers and accountants who know that churning out a prequel or sequel t a proven winner is a safer bet than something that ventures into known territory. They also know that it is easier to control costs with animated films using digital technologies rather than flesh and blood actors shooting in real locations. Young kids today are so accustomed to animated entertainment that they cannot relate to dramas featuring live, human actors. And finally, blockbuster movies are so special effects-intensive that storylines are non-existent. That’s why I was so captivated by this compilation of Buster Keaton-stunts. No AI, no stunt doubles, no distractions. It left me scratching my head and wondering “How did he do that?” SB SM]

We stay away from the blockbuster movie theatres too. No interest whatsoever.
We r lucky to have a small theatre close by that offers a wonderful calendar of quality international art-flicks and sometimes old classics. What a blessing. Watching on tv is not the same as immersing oneself into a movie screen at an intimate little setting for a few hours.
These Buster Keaton clips brought back great memories from long ago. He truly was quite the actor and an incredible “stuntman”. Which brought to mind an interview I was listening to on CBC radio this week with a stuntman. He has been trying for many years to get the Oscars to have a category to recognize them and the stunts and risks they take to make the actors look good and how they contribute to the action and excitement of a movie. The academy still refuses saying adding another category will make the allotted show-time frame too long. His suggestion – take out one of the dance routines or fluff-performances. Still not budging. He’s not giving up. I agree….it’s about time.
I agree about the stunt people deserving an award. Why should the actor, who did nothing, get the credit for the performance?
What absolute ,acrobatic,dare-devil creative, comic genius from Buster and crew! Thanks so much for sharing…we will!
