Neanderthals and the Wisdom of Geico

[Silverback Digest has published several articles on how our brethren, the Neanderthals, have been historically been portrayed, and manipulated, by various communities to serve their particular purposes. White racists, for example, have pointed towards the presence of Neanderthal DNA in northern populations as being a key factor in differentiating so-called “white cultures” from Africans. (Please don’t challenge me on this. I’m talking from the seat of my pants.)

This manipulation is ongoing. This time the purpose is to sell insurance! The Neanderthal is presented as erect, white, and with all the affectations of the educated, enlighted modern man, except for the primitive appearance/grooming. Interestingly, however, he is portrayed as a loser to the small, sleek, hairless, British accented, green reptile.

Personally, I find the portrayal hilarious, although I grind to a halt when it comes to figuring out how it sells insurance. Then again, I can say that I’m equally befuddled about Liberty-Liberty-Lib-er-ty. Add this to the list … SB SM]

Note the squash racquet. Nice touch!

Our caveman is so misunderstood!

  1. It’s kind of interesting that insurance companies use humor ( often) to promote sales for their products that supposed to protect us from death and disaster. I appreciate the approach. Some are great, Dr Rick, Flo, Geico Gekko. Time to retire Limu Emu, Doug and Gronk.

    1. You sound like a real aficionado of insurance company ads! Some of them are better than the regular programming, but you can take Liberty-Biberty and put it where the sun don’t shine. Meanwhile I hope the sun is shining on Tucson.
