Die with Zer0

How many years do you have left in The Jungle? Thanks for the many happy birthdays and wishes for “many happy returns.” Silverback John (Mendocino Bonobos), however, is mortality mode and suggests “You might do a Silverback Post asking your readers what their anticipated expiration dates are per the calculator?”

Here’s what he posted on FB:

DIE WITH ZERO

I’ve been reading a fascinating book that I’m learning a lot from called “Die with Zero” which quantifies your life in a unique way. Experiences beget ‘memory dividends’ and we should be spending our retirement lives and pre-retirement lives seeking peak experiences. When we die, we should be broke; the last check we write should be to the undertaker and it should bounce! The book asks that we each forecast our ‘expiration date’ so that we can plan for our cash to run out when we die. There are many life expectancy calculators but the one below is the most comprehensive I have found. It puts me at 92 when I die and the others varied between 87 and 93. Of course nothing is guaranteed, but it’s good to know for planning purposes. It asks you about your height, weight, family medical history, eating habits, exercising, what your stressors in life are, and lots more. I’d be interested in seeing where my Facebook friends end up re: their likely expiration dates. I’m good with 92 as I’d always thought mid to late 80s before. 20 more years would be nice assuming I stay healthy! Time to rack up some more experiences!

Here’s the calculator. I checked in at 90. DO YOUR CALCULATION, THEN POST A COMMENT TELLING OTHER SBs YOUR REACTION:

SB John muses: “Funny how some people are afraid to even discuss this stuff!”

  1. 91 years isn’t bad but that means I’m only 14 years away from my final day! That is the shocker! Interesting stuff!
