[Gotta add “Bang the Drum Slowly” to the list. How can you overlook a minor league catcher who pisses in the hotel sink? Here, by the way is a link to the definitive collection of (SB SM) Baseball Stories, as well as another to the most fun season in Red Sox history. SB SM

And, here’s the list:

Sorry, but “Field of Dreams” is awful sentimental slop.
True … but when you go to see it with 9 year old and 12 year old boys, and they are both in tears at the end, the sentimental slop works just fine!
I’d add “Fear Strikes Out.”
Jimmy Piersall was my favorite player on the Red Sox, and I am the proud owner of an 8×10″ glossy, signed and personalized to me. I will let you see it if you come visit us in Vermont.
I’m glad you added “Bang the Drum Slowly,” but where is “Major League” on this list?!! The first one, not any of the sequels. Same thing with “Bad News Bears”: the original only. And for older films, I might add “Fear Strikes Out” and “The Pride of the Yankees.”
Yeah … where is Major League? Charlie Sheen at his finest, which isn’t saying a lot. Bad News Bears? I guess if cute is your thing. Fear Strikes Out is more about mental illness than baseball (I have a signed, personalized picture of Jimmy Piersall.) But I have to draw the line at Pride of the Yankees. You couldn’t polish that turd.
