[And thus it came to pass, that I, Silverback Americanus, ventured into the world of Rock ‘n Roll Haiku, but not without sage guidance from Silverback Larry (Corn-fed SBs):

Some people think we
Might be hardwired for haiku
I bet it’s the beat

Larry pointed out that the Beatles sometimes stacked haiku:

She came in through the

Bathroom window protected

By a silver spoon

And now she sucks her

Thumb in wonder by the banks

Of her own lagoon.

She said she’d always

Been a dancer she worked in

Fifteen clubs a day

And though she thought I

Knew the answer well I knew

But I could not say

So, inspired by the Master, I decided to give it a try:

Silverback Larry

Inspired me to haiku

And now I’m a slave.

I see all the world

in seventeen syllables.

It’s five-seven-five.

Repeat after me,

“just seventeen syllables

over and over.”

Remembering our theme song in The Jungle:

I wrote:

Ray, the most talented Kink,

You really got me

all day and all of the night

What about Warren Zevon, another Silverback mainstay?

Warren Zevon is

a most excitable boy

whose shit ‘s fucked up.

(Sorry, but …

YouTube will not share

Warren Zevon’s video

“My Shit is Fucked-Up”

A desperate man

sends lawyers, guns, and money

to Warren Zevon.

And on that note:

but Silverback Larry gets the final word:

Let the kids know that
Geezers shuffling by were once
Big-time badasses
