Where We Are … (Hannah)

It’s our last day, and we’ll spend the day relaxing at our Soneva Jani villa over the water, with a two-story water slide that goes from our deck straight into the ocean! Yoga instructors are on hand, trained masseuses have set up camp by the pool, and private chefs will cater to our needs all day — enjoy the paradise.

What We Eat … (Sandy)

So here we are on Christmas Eve in Rome, 2018. We walked from our apartment in the historic center of the city, across the Tiber River, to the funky neighborhood of Trastavere in search of a late lunch. A huge basket of freshly harvested porcini mushrooms outside the door of a trattoria easily lured us in. Italians love their mushrooms and this Italian girl is no exception. I ordered the memorable porcini pasta and Stephen enjoyed a salad and porcini pizza.

Fast forward to Christmas Eve 2020 in Gilead and our Italian dinner in a box, a gift from Patrick, Hannah, and Hunter. I loosely followed a 2020 Food and Wine recipe for Porcini and Pistachios. It was so much fun to make. The dried porcini lent an even earthier flavor to the dish than I recalled from Trastavere. The bold, red wine held its own. The tablecloth is from our honeymoon trip to Umbria.
Thank you for the thoughtful gift. Stephen and I were transported to another time while remaining firmly fixed in gratitude to the present. Sandy

What We Listen To … (Jacob)
Adam Sandler sings The Hanukkah Song on SNL. Why is it also spelled Chanukah?

What Makes us Laugh … (Patrick)
Seemed like a good idea at the time. This goes on for 15 minutes, so you might not want to watch all of it. Personally, I find this guy to be hilarious, entertaining, and so-o-o good-looking!

What Amuses Us (Whitney)
The Gold Rush starring Charlie Chaplin is one of Jake’s favorites, and it has become one of mine. The film’s physical comedy is, of course, unparalleled, and Chaplin’s circumstances remind us all of how much we have to be grateful for. It features some of his best schticks, including the roll dance:
What Makes Us Family (Stephen)
I have a reputation of NOT being a very good gift-giver. I wonder why:
